Beyond the mirror: How Your Body Speaks the Truth Your Mind Ignores

Does My Body tell me anything?

Written by: Tom Szigethy

For most of my life, I never gave my body much thought—except when I noticed its flaws. I saw my reflection and immediately focused on what I lacked. Too skinny. Not strong enough. Not measuring up. Sound familiar?

Like many men, I believed my mind was my greatest asset—where my intelligence lived, where I built my personality, where I strategized for success. My body? It was just the vehicle that carried me from place to place. As long as it functioned, I had no reason to explore it any deeper.

But what if I told you that your body isn’t just a vessel—it’s a guide? A teacher. A source of wisdom beyond what your thoughts alone can provide.

Listening to the body: a new way to see yourself

We live in a world that glorifies intellect and logic. We chase external achievements, career advancements, and financial security, often neglecting the one thing that silently shapes our experience: our body.

I had spent years battling an inner voice that was ruthless, quick to highlight imperfections, and relentless in its criticism. But something changed when I started sitting with myself—truly sitting, without distractions, without a goal, just watching what arose.

At first, the judgments came in waves. Harsh, automatic, and deeply ingrained. But then, I learned a simple truth: thoughts are not facts. They are not my identity. They are passing clouds, and I don’t have to hold onto them.

And if I am not just my thoughts, then what am I?

The Body as the Gateway to Emotional Awareness

I started exploring what my body was saying instead of what I was saying about my body. I noticed how tension in my chest mirrored moments of stress, how my stomach tightened when I ignored my intuition, and how relaxation wasn’t something to chase but something to allow.

Through meditation, I discovered the spaces within me—the space between my muscles, my organs, even my cells. As I breathed, I felt something expand. A deeper intelligence. Creativity. Presence.

Then, at the gym, I found something remarkable. As I lifted weights, I matched my breath to my movements. Instead of just doing the reps, I synchronized my breath with every contraction and release. And suddenly, I wasn’t just working out—I was connecting. My mind wasn’t pushing my body; my body was leading my mind.

And I felt something I hadn’t expected: joy.

The Silent Power of your body

Your body is reading the world all day long. It feels the truth before your mind rationalizes it away. It responds to emotions before you can name them. And if you learn to listen—really listen—you’ll realize that your body isn’t just something to sculpt or criticize. It’s a key to understanding yourself on a level deeper than words.

So I leave you with this: Are you willing to hear what your body is saying?

Because when you do, you might just find a version of yourself that’s more powerful, more grounded, and more alive than you ever imagined.
